Colin Dowsett BSc (Hons) MCPP (UK)

After a long career as a university academic, I began training as a medical herbalist in 2000. My decision to make such a radical career move came from a lifelong fascination with the healing properties of plants and a strong vocational desire to practice natural medicine for the benefit of others.

I studied for an honours science degree in herbal medicine at the College of
Phytotherapy in the UK. This entailed four years of studying medical sciences, the pharmacology and application of herbal medicines in practice and undertaking 500 hours training at the College’s clinic in London. I was awarded a BSc honours degree in 2004 by the University of Wales.

I returned to New Zealand in 2005, moving shortly after to Levin. For me, Levin offers the opportunity of an attractive lifestyle and a population that I feel would derive benefit from having a natural medicine option as part of overall healthcare.

I am excited at witnessing the power of natural medicine to make a real difference to people’s health and helping to facilitate that. I am proud to be a registered member of the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy (UK) which is an organisation with a strong ethical code and stringent requirements for its members to undergo continous professional development and keep abreast of the latest developments in medical and herbal research.

The Levin Clinic of Natural Medicine is situated at the home where I live with my musician wife Pamela. At the back of an historic old villa I have a private designated clinic that looks out onto fruit trees and a vegetable garden. An ideal and peaceful setting where your journey to wellness begins.
